EVOLVE is a research and innovation project addressing one of the key challenges of electric mobility: improving energy efficiency and user confidence during real-world vehicle operation. The project targets Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), with a specific focus on passenger cars and electric commercial vehicles, and aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by optimizing vehicle usage, connectivity, and interaction with users and infrastructure.
EVOLVE integrates advanced vehicle modeling, AI-based prediction, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication and human–machine interfaces (HMI) within a unified digital ecosystem to enhance the everyday experience of electric vehicle drivers while maximizing environmental benefits. Within the project, RE:LAB leads the design and development of user-centred HMI solutions, applying UX/UI principles and behavioral design strategies to bridge complex predictive technologies with intuitive user interaction.
The project aims to increase vehicle autonomy, energy efficiency and overall driving comfort through an integrated approach that operates on three complementary levels.
EVOLVE combines advanced mission planning and battery range prediction, leveraging multi-criteria optimization techniques to support reliable navigation from point A to point B under real-world conditions. At the same time, the project focuses on energy-aware vehicle control by optimizing speed profiles through advanced Adaptive Cruise Control strategies, with the goal of minimizing energy consumption while respecting traffic and time constraints. In parallel, EVOLVE addresses smart charging and vehicle-to-home interaction by enabling bidirectional energy exchange and defining optimized charging profiles that adapt to user requirements and domestic energy usage patterns.
